Segments
The NA Group is active in two main sectors of the value added chain of copper: in copper production and copper processing.

The Copper Production Segment covers all the activities which are concerned with the production of high-grade copper in the form of marketable cathodes. It includes the smelter and refining operations at the Hamburg and Lünen sites as well as smallish subsidiaries and affiliates in raw material trade and raw material preparation.
Copper concentrates as well as copper scrap and copper-containing intermediates from other smelters form the basis of the raw material supplies for our Hamburg plants. A variety of copper-bearing secondary raw materials are processed in the NA Recycling Centre in Lünen.
In addition to high-purity cathode copper, we produce and market practically all the by-metals and co-products contained in the copper raw materials. Apart from gold, silver and platinum group metals, these include lead, nickel, bismuth, tin, antimony, zinc, selenium and tellurium products and compounds as well as sulphuric acid and iron silicate stone. This high use of raw materials is not only important for competitiveness but makes a significant contribution to saving resources and environmental protection.

The Copper Processing Segment continues the value added chain of copper and comprises all the NA Group activities which include the processing of copper cathodes into copper products. Thus in the first processing stage NA produces wire rod from cathodes (NA Hamburg/Deutsche Giessdraht Emmerich) and continuous cast shapes (NA Hamburg). The shapes produced in the second stage in Hamburg and Stolberg are processed into pre-rolled strip, strips and shaped wires at the 50 % affiliate Schwermetall Halbzeugwerk and the NA subsidiary Prymetall in Stolberg.

In addition, the sectors are supported by the Central Services Group Sector. This combines the departments that ensure smooth production operations or provide services for the employees.
