| Copper: a special metal |
 |
Copper is characterised by its excellent electrical and thermal conductivity with at the same time very good reforming behaviour and high corrosion resistance. This unique property profile explains the variety of the applications and why this material is to be found in all walks of life.
Classic copper applications such as roofs and installation pipes, but to an increasing degree also many high-tech products like leadframes, underwater cable or the high purity copper matrix of superconductors are only some examples of the numerous areas of application. The automotive industry also does not manage without copper. Every car in the middle class contains on average about 25 kg of copper, and this is on the increase.
In this growing market NA with its high purity copper is active in four product areas:
- continuous cast wire rod as the starting material for the production of cables and wires
- continuous cast wire rod in oxygen-free and low-alloyed copper for use primarily in the plating industry and for the production of special conductive profiles
- cakes for the production of strip, sheets, foils and plates
- billets for the production of tubes, bars and profiles
