Gold, silver, platinum and palladium: precious metals have always been part of our production programme. Having had its origins in a gold and silver parting plant, NA has immense experience in the recovery of these shining treasures from primary ore concentrates – NA’s most important source of raw materials - or secondary raw materials such as bullion, skimmings, catalysts, slimes or scrap. The secondary raw materials stem from the most varied areas of application such as
- electronics and electrical engineering
- automotive industry
- chemical industry
- technique for joining parts
- coin production
- jewellery industry
The materials are sampled carefully in Hamburg, analysed using state-of-the-art laboratory measuring instruments and finally efficiently – and thus for the customer cost-effectively - processed into fine metal in one of the numerous melting facilities.
When a material arrives at NA, it is carefully inspected and weighed on an electronic precision weighing machine. Each order is given an individual lot number. In addition, a special data processing system registers and documents each technical step and the commercial process without exception. In this way we can ensure that each lot is correctly and separately subjected to the processing stages of homogenisation, sampling and analysis through to the credit entry. Samples of the material received are kept carefully for several months.
In sampling and analysis our experienced team use state-of-the-art processes and equipment in order that the greatest care and precision is ensured in all preparation stages.

The high technical standard is also reflected in the wide range of treatment and preparation processes. They enable great flexibility and thus the maximum output of the precious metals contained in the material. Accordingly, the measuring and production processes have to be just as sophisticated and cost-effective. With our flexible processes we provide the prerequisites for an extensive resource-saving economic cycle. In this way our customers can be sure that they are choosing an economically and ecologically optimised solution for their precious metal management.
The customer has the option of receiving compensation for the precious metals produced by having
- the pure precious metals physically returned
- the precious metal transfer credited to a metal account requested by the customer
- the precious metal credit bought by Norddeutsche Affinerie
Our precious metal management ensures the customer-oriented, smooth settlement of the respective transaction.
In August 2000 Norddeutsche Affinerie AG acquired the original traditional business of the former Degussa AG, the parting activities in the sector of gold and silver-bearing materials.
To ensure the optimum in customer service and the accustomed customer proximity in Germany the business unit Metallurgy runs its own sales office in Hanau, where an experienced team – supported by its Hamburg colleagues – looks after renowned customers from the precious metal industry all over the world.
We should be pleased to give you further information on precious metal recycling and sales.
