Sulphuric acid is used in almost all industrial sectors. Typical areas of application are in the production of fertilisers and pigments as well as metal ore leaching. In addition, sulphuric acid is used extensively in the chemical industry, whether in fibre production, hydrofluoric acid production, chlorine drying or one of the many other applications.
The raw material sources for the production of most sulphuric acid grades is either brimstone or SO2 bearing gas from smelters.
As regards the quality, sulphur-based sulphuric acid is a challenging benchmark for any smelter acid. Without an extensive cleaning process some areas of application, particularly in the chemical industry, will remain closed to smelter acid in the long run.
