Material procurement
It is the task of Material Procurement to provide all sectors and departments in the NA Group in the necessary time with all the required goods and services in optimal quality for the purpose at the best obtainable conditions.
Material Procurement is required here to examine the needs and critically participate in the resultant decision-making processes.
Support is another focal point, in particular for the maintenance sector, with material procurement and personnel recruitment in emergencies.

Group logistics
Group Logistics ensure on the one hand that materials are available at a good price in the right quantities and at the agreed time and place, on the other hand that attractive rates and routes for our customers’ consignments are always available for the sales departments.
While meeting high demands on quality and flexibility, the logistical supply and disposal of auxiliary materials and operating supplies as well as intermediary and finished products in the production sectors ensure optimal performance and the highest possible availability of the production sectors.
In addition, Group Logistics are responsible for stocks of auxiliary materials and operating supplies.
The service range comprises stock control in the central warehouse and the storage areas, material flow management, transport management and process engineering. The post department, hazardous goods management and load security are likewise part of logistics.
Maintenance
In collaboration with the production sectors, Norddeutsche Affinerie’s Maintenance has the task of maintaining and repairing all production plant and equipment from the viewpoint of ensuring the optimum in process technology and cost-effectiveness in order to continually increase plant availability. In so doing, the maintenance staff provide solutions to problems related to plant and equipment at any time and use their know-how proactively. Risk-based maintenance (RBM) is the basis of this service.
In addition, Maintenance makes an active contribution to process optimisation in all sectors.
Through internal and external benchmarks it is ensured that the production sectors always receive the highest level of service and advice by the most economically efficient means.
The central coordination of maintenance ensures optimal service for the production sectors’ most varied needs as regards timely, material and human resources.
Technical office
The Design Office is responsible for the innovative processing and proactive initiation of new construction projects and maintenance. The aim is to ensure an optimal technical function as well as to adhere to agreed budgets and deadlines.
It also focuses on special assignments and projects for the Executive Board, the Group service sector and the Group service departments as well as looking after the buildings and infrastructure in the NA Group.
A particular aspect of the service is the total project management, Group-wide technological planning and projecting, the advancement of innovative projects as well as the optimal use of external engineering.
Energy management
Apart from supplying the NA Group with all the necessary forms of energy, Energy Management develops innovative business concepts to generate additional revenues and to ensure that the NA Group has a reliable long-term supply of all required forms of energy at competitive prices. In addition, work also continues Group-wide on the optimisation of the energy consumption situation – by reducing consumption, improving utilisation and combined concepts.
The services provided by Energy Management include the reliable and cost-effective operation of the energy and boiler plants, as well as the internal supply of O2, N2, steam, VE water, natural gas, water from the public network, cooling water and compressed air.
General administration/works security
The General Administration and Works Security sectors have the task of looking after the employees, buildings and plants at the Hamburg site and, increasingly in the NA Group as a whole, under the aspects of works safety/fire protection and social needs.
These sectors are additionally in charge of the planning, organisation and execution of internal and external events (NAevent).
The range of services includes Works security/works fire brigade, NAevent, Sanitary facilities, Kitchens and canteens, Social services, Drinks vending machines, Vehicles, Cleaning service and Administration and central office building.
Analytical laboratories
The departments of the Analytical Laboratories supply all the relevant sectors throughout the Group with the necessary chemical/physical analyses. At the same time, the aspects of internal customer orientation play a significant role as regards process times, precision and cost optimisation. The analytical laboratories are an independent and objective institution within the Group for determining quality.
In addition, experts from the analytical laboratories provide advisory services and analytical support for all production processes, raw material procurement and product sales.
Analyses for external parties are performed under the additional aspect of obtaining the highest possible revenues while at the same time being market oriented.
